ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Naval Architecture and Ship Building Engineering Department is a promising department of SNGCE since 2013, offered as per the curriculum of Kerala Technological University, Trivandrum. Naval architecture is one of the many disciplines in the field of engineering that deals with the designing, constructing, maintaining and operating of different marine vessels. The department offers B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ship building engineering with focus on design, construction and maintenance of ships and other marine structures. The curriculum includes hydrostatic characteristics, stability, occupational safety and health, hydrodynamics, ship structures,  design and analyze of marine engineering systems, project management, quality control, IMO rules and regulations, subsea installation, subsea integrity, offshore codes and standards, Computer Aided Drafting, Mooring and Riser analysis, Pipe line Engineering, Marine HVAC, other related specializations.

The Department was created in 2013 with the following objectives:

• To create infrastructure and expertise for Bachelors course in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding covering Ocean Engineering and related fields, which have direct relevance in the national context.

• To extend educational facilities and train the manpower from industry and R & D organizations

• To collaborate with user organizations on need based problems.

The last 10 years have witnessed the growth of this Department in terms of imparting quality education and placement, with 100% placement in the last two years. The Department remains committed to excellence in its endeavor in education and training programs as well as supporting developmental efforts of marine industries.
